Know When a Financial Services Licence Changes
MonitorHQ checks ASIC's AFS licensee and authorised representative registers for each entity you monitor, and alerts you to a licence being added, suspended, reinstated or ending, an authorised or corporate authorised representative appointment starting or ending, and changes to the conditions on a licence. Included on every plan.
> AFS licence suspended on the register
> AFS licence no longer listed
> Appointment as authorised representative ended
> Licence conditions changed
Why It Matters
A licence can change without a call
The register records it. Nobody has to tell you.
A licence is suspended while you still rely on it
You onboarded a licensee, adviser group or fund manager because they held a licence. If it is suspended, your file still says it was in good standing on the day you checked.
A licence ends and the entity keeps operating
A licence is cancelled or surrendered and the entity is no longer listed. The change is on the register long before it reaches your records.
An authorised representative loses the appointment
A corporate authorised representative operates under a licensee's licence. When the appointment ends, the authority behind the work you are relying on ends with it.
The conditions on a licence change
What a licence authorises can change over time. If your arrangement depends on a particular authorisation, you want to know when the listed conditions move.
What We Monitor
Four signals, one entity page
The licences and representative appointments listed against the entity are shown on its page
Licence listed or ended
An AFS licence appearing against the entity, or the entity no longer being listed as a licensee.
Suspended and reinstated
A licence moving between approved and suspended on the register, recorded with the change.
Authorised representatives
Appointments of the entity as an authorised representative, including corporate authorised representatives, starting or ending.
Licence conditions
A change to the conditions listed on the licence, so a change in what it authorises does not go unseen.
Honest Limits
What it does not do
Know the edges before you rely on it
Only entries matched to your entity
It covers register entries that carry the entity's ABN or ACN. Entries recorded without either identifier, or under a different entity, are not matched, and it does not match on name.
Entities, not individual advisers
It covers licensees and corporate representatives that have an ABN or ACN. It does not track individual financial advisers.
Register snapshots, refreshed about weekly
ASIC publishes these registers as files that are refreshed about weekly, so a change can reach you days after it happens. It is not a live feed.
What the register lists, not conduct
Alerts report the licence status and details the register shows. They say nothing about conduct, enforcement action or whether a licence suits your purpose, and they are general information, not legal advice.
Common Questions
Straight answers
What is AFSL monitoring?
AFSL monitoring means keeping watch on the Australian Financial Services Licence register for changes to an entity's licence, so a suspension, a licence ending or a change in conditions does not go unnoticed. MonitorHQ does this for every entity you monitor, using ASIC's published AFS licensee and authorised representative registers.
What is a corporate authorised representative?
A corporate authorised representative (CAR) is a company that a licensee has authorised to provide financial services on the licensee's behalf. MonitorHQ shows when an entity you monitor is listed as one, and alerts you when that appointment starts or ends.
How are licences matched to an entity?
By the ABN or ACN recorded against the register entry. An entry recorded without either identifier, or under a different entity, will not be matched. It does not match on name.
How quickly will I hear about a change?
ASIC publishes these registers as files that are refreshed about weekly. MonitorHQ checks for a new file daily and alerts you quickly once one shows a change, so an alert can lag the change itself by days.
Does it tell me about enforcement action or conduct?
No. It reports what the register lists and the status shown for the licence. It is not a conduct, enforcement or suitability check.
Does it cost extra or count towards my entity limit?
No. Licence and registration monitoring is included on every plan at no extra cost and does not count towards entity limits. This page is general information, not legal advice.
