Know What Happens to Your Trade Marks
MonitorHQ watches the IP Australia register for trade marks owned by each entity you monitor, and alerts you quickly to new filings, status changes, assignments and approaching renewal dates. Included on every plan.

> Mark status changed: accepted to registered
> Mark assigned away from the entity
> Renewal due in 30 days
Why It Matters
A trade mark can change without a call
The register records it. Nobody has to tell you.
A renewal is missed and the mark lapses
A registered mark has a renewal due date. If it passes unnoticed, the mark can be removed from the register, usually discovered during a clearance search or a dispute.
A mark is assigned away unnoticed
A mark is assigned to or from an entity and the change appears on the register. Your records still show the old owner.
A new filing appears in a counterparty's name
A counterparty files a new trade mark, a signal about where the business is heading that you would otherwise only find by searching.
A status changes while you rely on the old one
A mark moves to refused, removed or lapsed while your file still says registered. The date matters when the next step has a deadline.
What We Monitor
Four signals, one entity page
Each mark's renewal due date, status, classes and history are shown on the entity page
New filings
A new trade mark filed with the entity as owner, matched by ABN or ACN on the IP Australia register.
Status changes
Moves such as accepted, registered, refused, removed or lapsed, recorded with the change.
Assignments
A mark assigned to or from the entity, so an ownership change does not go unseen.
Renewal reminders
Reminders at 90, 30 and 7 days before a registered mark's renewal due date.
Honest Limits
What it does not do
Know the edges before you rely on it
Only marks matched to your entity
It covers marks that IP Australia records against the entity's ABN or ACN. A mark recorded without either identifier, or under a different entity, will not be matched.
Not a brand-conflict watch
It does not alert you to other people's similar or look-alike marks. Use a dedicated watch service for conflict and opposition monitoring.
A second check, not your diary
It backs up your own renewal diary or docketing system. It does not file, renew or fix anything on your behalf.
General information only
Alerts report what the register shows. They are general information, not legal advice. Take advice on what to do about a change.
Common Questions
Straight answers
What is trademark monitoring?
Trade mark monitoring (also written trademark monitoring) means keeping watch on the register for changes to the marks an entity owns, so a new filing, a status change, a transfer or a missed renewal does not go unnoticed. MonitorHQ does this against IP Australia's Trade Mark Search register for every entity you monitor.
What does trade mark monitoring watch?
MonitorHQ watches IP Australia's Trade Mark Search register for marks owned by each entity you monitor. It alerts you quickly to new filings in the entity's name, status changes, assignments to or from the entity, and approaching renewal dates.
How are trade marks matched to an entity?
By the owner's ABN or ACN as recorded on the IP Australia register. A mark recorded without either identifier, or under a different entity, will not be matched.
When are renewal reminders sent?
For a registered mark, reminders are sent at 90, 30 and 7 days before the renewal due date shown on the register. They back up your own diary and do not replace it.
Will it tell me when someone files a similar trade mark?
No. It is not a brand-conflict or look-alike watch service. It covers marks owned by the entities you monitor, not other people's marks that resemble them.
Does it cost extra or count towards my entity limit?
No. Trade mark monitoring is included on every plan at no extra cost and does not count towards entity limits. This page is general information, not legal advice.
